MNSC Meeting with YBhg Datuk Seri J.Jayasiri, Secretary General of MITI

Monday 14 August 2017, 09:00 AM - 05:00 PM

MNSC briefed MITI the few issues faced by the exporters and importers which include the container deposit by shipping lines, rising of ancillary charges in logistics. MNSC also proposed for the establishment of the Maritime Commission, similar to the Federal Maritime Commission in USA to regulate the players and rates charged. Any price increase and addition of new categories of charges by any service providers related to maritime will have to be justified and approved by the commission. In USA, the FMC protects the shippers/traders from financial harm, and contributes to the integrity and security of the U.S. supply chain and transportation system by investigating and ruling on complaints regarding rates, charges, classifications, and practices of common carriers, and Ocean Transportation Intermediaries (OTIs), that violate the Shipping Act.
