Visits to Penang Port by MNSC and FMM

MNSC's Secretary General, Dato' Nathan K Suppiah visited Penang Port together with Ybhg. Dato' Paddy Abd Halim, Deputy Director General of Customs (Customs / GST), YBhg. Dato' Abdul Latif Hj. Abu Seman, Chief Information Officer of Malaysia Productivity Corporation (MPC), Puan Noor Wahida Noordin, Senior Director of Ministry of International Trade and Industry (Investment Policy and Trade Facilitation Division, MITI), Mr. Zahid Ismail, Director of MPC and representatives from FMM Penang Branch including YBhg. Dato' Dr. Ooi Eng Hock, FMM Penang Branch Chairman, YBhg. Dato' Jimmy C. K. Ong, FMM Penang Branch Vice Chairman and Mr. Hun Keng Kuan, FMM Penang Branch Vice Chairman.

The objective of the visit is to address the current issue regarding the scanning process imposed by the Customs at Penang Port. MNSC expressed few issues faced by shippers which including delays in the process of the clearance of containers at Penang Port and also hidden charges from inspection and examination. The heavy traffic congestion due to the 100% scanning practice in the Penang Port and inspection imposed will take from hours to several days which will caused the shippers to suffer delays.
